Friday – Ladies Champion of Champions

Our Ladies Champion, Dympna, got the weekend off to a fantastic start, representing Sligo Lawn Bowls Club with distinction.

Dympna won her opening match 21–15 to progress to the quarter-finals and the last eight. She then produced a superb performance against the defending Champion in a thrilling contest that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Leading for much of the game, she was unfortunately pipped at the post in the final end, narrowly losing 21–20.

It was an outstanding display of skill, determination and composure against top-class opposition. Dympna did Sligo Lawn Bowls Club proud, and we couldn't have been prouder of her achievement.

Saturday – Friendship on the Green

With no Championship matches scheduled on Saturday, our generous hosts at Dun Laoghaire Bowling Club organised a friendly match for the Sligo supporters who had travelled to support our champions.

Despite playing on an unfamiliar green, both Sligo teams adapted brilliantly and enjoyed excellent results.

Team 1 – Lead Pascal, Second Kathleen, and Skip Michael G secured a well-earned 14–10 victory on Rink 4.

Team 2 – Lead Maureen G, Second Liz, and Skip Frank O delivered a superb performance, recording an impressive 23–4 win on Rink 2.

The afternoon was about much more than the scores. It was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy competitive bowls, renew friendships and experience the exceptional hospitality for which Dun Laoghaire Bowling Club is renowned.

Sunday – Men's Champion of Champions

On Sunday, it was the turn of our Men's Champion, Jessie, to take to the green.

Jessie produced a determined and competitive performance in his opening match. Although he was narrowly defeated 21–15, he represented Sligo Lawn Bowls Club with great skill, sportsmanship and fighting spirit, doing both himself and the club proud.

A Weekend to Remember

As the weekend drew to a close, the Sligo group gathered outside Dun Laoghaire Bowling Club for one final photograph before beginning the journey home—a fitting end to a truly memorable few days.

While championship honours ultimately eluded us, our representatives competed with distinction, our supporters enjoyed success in the friendly matches, and everyone experienced the warmth, friendship and outstanding hospitality extended by our hosts.

A sincere thank you to everyone at Dun Laoghaire Bowling Club for organising such a superb weekend. Your kindness, generosity and welcome made the event a pleasure both on and off the green.

Finally, congratulations to Dympna and Jessie for representing Sligo Lawn Bowls Club with such pride, commitment and sportsmanship. You were outstanding ambassadors for our club, and we are immensely proud of you both.
