Perseverance Pays Off

Anthony finally wins his first ever spoon… it may only be silver, but a spoon’s a spoon! Could his wife’s gold last week have been the motivation he needed all along?

The green was wild today - bowls flying like they had their own minds, wind howling like it had a grudge, and us mere mortals wondering if we’d accidentally joined a curling competition instead.

But then… after 16 long, spoonless months of “nearly there” and days when the rub of the green was more rub than green, Anthony finally did it! His first ever coveted spoon is now safely in his grasp, and justice has been done.

Helping him along the way: “Mr SpoonsPaul (the mastermind) and Helen G (quietly brilliant, as always). Their winning score of 20 edged out Liz & Vincent, who were coming for them like a determined double-act, but fell just short.

In joint third, we had:

the sly duo Maureen G & Jessie, and

the calm, collected trio Timmy, Plunkett & Michael G, holding the line like seasoned pros.

Results:

1st Place: Rink 1, 20 points, Anthony, Paul, Helen G

2nd Place: Rink 3, 18 points, Liz & Vincent

3rd Place

Rink 2, 16 Points, Timmy, Plunkett, Michael G

Rink 4, 16 Points, Maureen G, Jessie

Spoons were presented in style by Mr. Chuck Devaney, who somehow made handing out cutlery look like a national ceremony.

A windy, chaotic, laugh-out-loud kind of day… but above all, a historic one. Anthony finally gets his spoon, only just over a year in the making!
